THE SUNDAY
SCHOOL

A volunteer-led educational initiative supporting refugee and migrant children at the Kofinou Reception Centre through learning, creativity, culture and community.

THE PROJECT

A school without the usual walls.

The Sunday School is a volunteer-led educational initiative created to support refugee and migrant children at the Kofinou Reception Centre. Its work brings together education, creativity, culture and human connection.

The initiative was announced in 2018 and has developed as a space where children from different backgrounds can learn, participate and build a sense of community together.

Learning together.

A space for learning, meeting, making and sharing — with people and their experiences at the centre.

WHAT WE DO
  • Teaching and strengthening Greek-language skills
  • Supporting children’s educational needs
  • Helping children’s social and cultural integration
  • Providing activities such as music, theatre, dance and art
  • Promoting respect, love, solidarity, mutual support and volunteerism
THE INITIATIVE

Μarianna Pafiti — Inspiration & Coordinator of the Sunday School

The programme uses non-verbal communication and, above all, human connection and movement to create a sense of unity among children who come from very different backgrounds, cultures and value systems.

Through this approach, the programme has succeeded in creating a strongly connected group of children — a community built through contact, participation and shared experience.
